“Fleeting Steps” is the first Gianluca Livi solo album. Co-founder of Anno Mundi, he released with the band 2 albums and one cd as independent issues, distributed by BTF/Earshock, along with being part of compilations “Kissed By Kiss” and “Metal Years”, published by Celtic Moon Records and Ace Records respectively.
Set apart the 70s hard rock mood, very close to early Black Sabbath, this new issue is more prone to crossover, between sperimentalism and ambient music, inspired by some Peter Gabriel instrumental tracks, the enigmatic side of Tangerine Dream, the multi-layerism of frippertronics.
Livi’s today approach is free and visionary, sometims provocatory, allucinating, with a trait of revolutionary intimism, and with a very measured presence of its own instrument, the drums, while opting for electronic percussive devices as well as noise studio devices and effects.
Livi’s artistic goals were in the target thanks to the mastership of Stefano Pontani, eclectic guitar-man, formerly player with prestige prog and fusion bands as Ezra Wisnton, VU-Meters, Anagramma (Hailed as one of the most influential Italian prog bands of the 1980’s, Ezra Winston took a variety of styles and became a melting pot for all sorts of colors and emotions in music), as well as soundtracks (Matilda Mothers Project, “L’ultima lezione”, awarded of Golden Globe Award).
Pontani is the first guitar-synth player amongst Italian progsters and also ventured in the unexplored musical interaction with geophysical data sensors through specific procedures.
The album includes bassist Domenico Dente, occasionally playing also in the new Anno Mundi album, and Massimo Sergi, exquisite keyboard and piano player, imaginative in both sides, acoustic and electronic, minimalistic and intimistic, but also in the crudest and neurotic synth trips.
“Fleeting Steps” è il disco d’esordio di Gianluca Livi, co-fondatore degli Anno Mundi, con i quali ha pubblicato due vinili autoprodotti e un cd stampato e distribuito da BTF/Earshock, vantando partecipazioni alle compilation “Kissed By Kiss” e “Metal Years”, edite da Celtic Moon Records e Ace Records.
Abbandonato l’hard rock che vedeva nei seventies la sua principale fonte di ispirazione, con particolare riguardo alla dura lezione impartita dai primissimi Black Sabbath, oggi egli compie scelte trasversali, in bilico tra ambient e sperimentazione, elevando a fonte di ispirazione le criptiche elucubrazioni del Peter Gabriel a vocazione strumentale, l’espressionismo dei Tangerine Dream più enigmatici, il magnetismo multistrutturato dei frippertronics intersecanti ed ambigui, l’oscura propensione dei Goblin più cupi e anticoformisti.
Egli esprime oggi il suo libero concetto di musica visionaria, a tratti sediziosa, talvolta allucinata, demolendo schemi precostituiti e modellando utopistici archetipi a vocazione intimista riducendo ai minimi termini l’impiego del suo strumento, la batteria, optando invece per l’impiego di percussioni elettroniche, con largo ricorso ai laptop e al noise puro.
I suoi obiettivi sono stati perseguiti anche grazie all’ausilio di un maestro dello specifico genere, Stefano Pontani, pregiatissimo chitarrista ad inclinazione empirica. Oltre a vantare trascorsi in seminali band di prog (Ezra Wisnton, VU-Meters) e fusion (Anagramma), egli è entrato a testa alta nel mondo delle colonne sonore (con i Matilda Mothers Project, infatti, ha co-firmato la sonorizzazione de “L’ultima lezione”, film vincitore di un Golden Globe Award), ha introdotto per primo il guitar synth nella compagine progressiva ed è l’unico artista conosciuto capace di tradurre i dati geofisici in musica, previa realizzazione di particolari procedimenti di sonificazione.
Il progetto è completato da Domenico Dente, bassista ipnotico e seducente che vanta una fugace presenza nel nuovo album dei citati Anno Mundi, e Massimo Sergi, raffinato artista capace di passare con disinvoltura dai minimalismi suggestivi e malinconici del solo piano, alle schizoidi elucubrazioni dei sintetizzatori nevrotici e stranulati.
